Short ribs are one of the most popular cuts of beef, usually used for braised beef recipes, barbecue, baked with vegetables and several recipes using a crock pot or slow cooker. Beef short ribs are meatier, larger and more tender than pork spare ribs. In butcher terms, a full slab of short beef ribs will mean that it is about ten inches in length ad three to five inches thick, which contains between three to four ribs, boneless meat, tendon and fat. If that is too much for the beef short ribs recipe you have in mind, you can also ask the butcher to separate the ribs into shorter lengths, called the English cut, which is about two inches long. You can have a flanken cut, which is cut across the bones to a thickness of about half an inch. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to rib steak, you can have the short ribs cut into boneless steaks. Here is a recipe for barbecued beef short ribs.

For a unique brined and beer-simmered barbecued beef short ribs recipe you will need four to six pounds of beef short ribs, one cup each of kosher salt and granulated sugar, two quartz water and six bottles of lager beer and your favorite barbecue sauce. Mix the kosher salt, sugar and water into a two-gallon resealable plastic bag and agitate it until the sugar and salt are dissolved. Place the clean short ribs inside the bag, squeeze out most of the air, seal the bag and place inside the refrigerator for six to eight hours. After marinating, rinse the short ribs. Pour the beer into a large stock pot and place the rinsed short ribs inside. Top the ribs with about half an inch of cold water. Once the liquid is simmering, turn the heat to low and continue to cook the ribs for two hours. Prepare your grill and when ready, place the ribs bone side down. Cover the grill and allow the ribs to cook for thirty minutes. Brush the ribs on all sides with barbecue sauce and continue to grill for an additional nine minutes with the grill covered. This recipe will serve four people.

It is quite easy to find a beef short ribs recipe when you search online. The recipe may be very simple or quite elaborate with plenty of seasonings and garnishing. For most people, the best recipe they have for beef short ribs is the one that involves slow cooking where the meat will be rendered very tender and easily separates from the bones.

Sushi is one type of Japanese food enjoyed by many all over the world. They are colorful, flavorful and healthy. You can serve sushi at a children’s party. But instead of traditional Japanese sushi, make colorful candy sushi.

Candy sushi uses rice crispy cereal to serve as the sushi rice base. For the seaweed wrapper or nori, use green fruit roll-ups. For the other ingredients, use colorful gummy-type candies. Try making this maki style candy sushi.

1. Prepare your ingredients. You will need:

• 3 tablespoons margarine or butter
• 10 oz of regular marshmallows
• 6 cups of plain rice crispy cereal
• Baking spray
• Green Fruit Roll-Ups
• Various gummy candies

2. At low heat, melt the margarine or butter in a saucepan.

3. Add the marshmallows. Stir well until all the marshmallows melt. Take the saucepan off the heat.

4. Stir in rice crispy cereal. Coat these well with the melted marshmallows.

5. Pour some of the coated cereal unto a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Spray the wax paper with baking spray. Make thin rectangular sheets by pressing and forming the coated cereal with a margarine coated spatula. You can also use your hands to press the sticky cereal. But make sure to spray your hands with baking spray.

6. Place two or three different colors of elongated gummy candy along the short side of the flattened cereal. With the help of the wax paper, roll the coated cereal to enclose the gummy candy. Make the roll really tight to make a log.

7. Cut the log with a sharp knife and set aside.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until you use up all the coated cereals.

9. Cut each log into 1” rounds. Wrap each one with a strip of Fruit Roll-Ups, preferably green. Do this for all the candy sushi. When done, arrange in a platter for serving.
There are many types of Japanese sushi. Look at pictures of the different sushi for some inspiration in creating a variety of candy sushi. Use different types of gummy candy and some regular candy to make colorful candy sushi that kids and adults can enjoy.

Mexican chocolate is quite distinctive as it is prepared with different spices, which make the chocolate very rich in flavor. Mexico is one of the top cocoa-growing regions in the world and chocolate bars and cocoa powder are some of their top products for the domestic and export markets. It is traditional in Mexico to drink chocolate as a hot beverage, and the method of preparation makes for a rich, thick and foamy cup of chocolate. Below are the steps on how to make Mexican hot chocolate.

For this recipe you will need the following:
• One-fourth cup each of unsweetened cocoa and granulated sugar
• Three-fourths teaspoon each of ground cinnamon and vanilla extract
• Four cups of milk, divided into one cup and three cups
• One half-cup of cream
• Dash of salt

Combine all the dry ingredients in a small bowl while you heat one cup of milk in a saucepan. Add the cocoa powder into the bubbling milk while whisking until the mixture is smooth. Allow the mixture to boil under low heat while stirring constantly. Cocoa tends to sit in the bottom of the container and may burn. Add the other three cups of milk into the saucepan and allow the liquid to boil. Use a whisk until the mixture turns frothy and stir in the cream and vanilla as well as the salt. Allow the mixture to be heated before serving the hot chocolate.

This is just one of the many recipes on how to make Mexican hot chocolate. There are many more variations, using different spices to suit your personal taste.

If you are looking for more ideas on how to make Mexican hot chocolate look for several recipes online. Some recipes include the addition of chili to make the chocolate spicier. Some add vanilla beans instead of vanilla extract for richer flavor and aroma. Some will add eggs to make the chocolate thicker. The one thing you should not forget is that the hot chocolate should be frothy to carry on the Mexican tradition.

An underactive thyroid or Hypothyroidism happens when the thyroid gland is not able to produce thyroid hormones. Because the thyroid is an endocrinal gland, it produces certain hormones into the body’s bloodstream. These are chemicals that the body itself creates and help in adjusting and controlling the functions of the different organs and cells. When there is a lack of these thyroid hormones, the body’s metabolism significantly slows down. The symptoms of underactive thyroid in women are often mistaken as indications for other medical problems, because they have a lot of similarities. However, these symptoms must not be taken for granted because they can cause serious complications.

It is a fact that there are people who are more prone in developing hypothyroidism than others. Women, more than men, are more likely to acquire it. Reports have shown that about 50 % of females develop an underactive thyroid during their menopausal period. These can be caused by hormonal changes that take place at particular stage of their lives. The symptoms of underactive thyroid in women include excessive weight gain that happens quickly- a sign that the rate of metabolism has decreased; stronger menstruation that lasts longer than normal; fatigue, an indication of other problems, but also associated with hypothyroidism; bloating and puffiness; joint and muscle pains; overly dry skin; and continuous forgetfulness. A skin condition called Myxedema is a signal of a more advanced type of Hypothyroidism. This can eventually cause congestive heart failure if the disease is not treated immediately. A pregnant woman can also develop an underactive thyroid and display symptoms fatigue and depression. If not checked immediately, the baby could be born with defects.

The early symptoms of underactive thyroid in women must not be ignored and addressed immediately. A physical exam and blood tests must be given to determine whether these symptoms are indeed cause by an underactive thyroid or another illness altogether. If it is indeed hypothyroidism, the treatments include medication or being given a synthetic thyroid hormone, depending on the severity of the condition. A physician must be consulted immediately to be able to best evaluate these symptoms, come up with a diagnosis, and begin treatment as soon as possible.

Everywhere you look, color is everywhere. It is on your clothes, in your surroundings, on your skin, etc. Without colors, the world will be a black-and-white movie. The world will be boring without any splash of color. What do colors mean? In different countries, religions, cultures and traditions, different colors mean different things. Sometimes a single color has entirely different meanings depending on who is asking. Emotions and moods are also represented by colors. There are many colors in the colorwheel and each of them connotes different interpretations.

What do colors mean regarding emotions? Black is the color of mourning. When someone in the family just passed away, the collective color of the whole family is black, which indicates sadness of the family member’s passing. It is also the color of evil intentions. White is the color of serenity and peacefulness. When one is in a white room, calm and quiet immediately engulfs a person. Red is the color of fierce emotions: anger, excitement and happiness. Pink is the color of love and romance. There are many other different colors that connote different emotions. Sometimes they depend on who is feeling the emotion.

Colors symbolize a lot of things, and they differ in every country. For example, for the Romans, red symbolizes battle and war, while in India it is the color of a soldier. There really are no wrong interpretations of what colors mean. In every place that you go to, the people have their own symbolisms and representations of different colors that may not be the same as the representations that you know in your region. You only have to be open-minded and embrace the place’s color symbolisms and you can even try to incorporate them in your daily life.

What do colors mean for you? Do you have your own interpretations of colors when it comes to your personal life? Does the color blue signify your loneliness rather than black? Whatever color you want to symbolize your emotions and life with, no one can tell you that you are wrong. Everyone has his own interpretations of all things, not just about colors.

The metric system is the system of measurement widely used all over the world with the exception of some countries, like the United States. The United States still makes use of the Imperial system of measurement. The Metric System was first adopted by the French, and then spread around the world until almost all countries make use of this system. Metrics conversion allows the conversion of all kinds of units of measurement like volume, length, mass, temperature, weight, area, pressure and energy. It allows anyone to convert any unit of measurement to the Metric System.

Conversion tables and charts are widely available to allow everyone to convert a unit of measurement to another unit. Units of measurements are found almost everywhere: in cookbooks, food labels, clothing, shoes, etc. There are two ways of converting units of measurement: online or manual.

Online conversion

Metrics conversion is available online. There are a lot of websites that offer conversions. You only have to choose the unit of measurement that you want to convert and type in the value in the corresponding box. For example, if you want to convert two yards to feet, simply enter the value (2) and choose the unit of measurement of the value (yard). On the right side of the screen, choose among the units of measurement that you want the value to be converted (feet). The converted value is displayed automatically. Different sites have different conversion styles but nonetheless give the same results.

Manual conversion

Using a calculator for metrics conversion requires you to have a conversion table or chart. If you are familiar with the units of measurements and their corresponding conversion values, you can simply calculate the value you are looking for.

Metrics conversion is an essential part of daily life. The basics are taught in school and can be re-learned and familiarized through everyday activities. Once or twice a day you may encounter a situation where you have to convert a unit of measurement. Knowing the basics of conversion is an important tool in daily living, so if you are not too familiar with the Metric System, it is never too late to be acquainted.

Metric conversion charts make it easier for anyone to convert between different units of measure. These conversion charts are based on the metric system. This system was designed by the French in the eighteenth century. At that time, there were too many different measurement units. If for instance you needed to get the length of a stick, the stick could be measured in feet, cubits, chains, hands, palms and more! This led to a lot of confusion.

The French government led the way in solving this dilemma. A system of measurement was devised for use throughout the globe. This was called Système International d’Unités (SI), the metric system. The metric system remains as the primary measurement system in the world. The United States and a few other countries still use the imperial system.

Metric conversion charts show you the different values you need to use to convert one unit of measure to another. The following units of measure are typically found on a metric conversion chart: length, area, volume, temperature, and mass. Others include illumination and stress (force and pressure). You can use these charts to convert within the metric system or between the metric system and imperial system. For instance, you can convert grams to kilograms, Celsius to Fahrenheit, yards to feet, cups to liters, etc. using the values on the charts.

Metric conversion charts are readily available. You can find them in different types of books especially cookbooks, in notebooks, at the back of planners and calendars, and of course online. If you look at metric conversion charts, the values do not go beyond 3 decimal places for ease of conversion.

The metric system is easy to work with compared to other systems of measure. It is based on the concept of multiples of ten. Most of the time, you only need to move the decimal place either to the left or to the right depending on whether you are converting a larger unit to a smaller one or vice versa. If you do a lot of converting between units of measure, have metric conversion charts printed out so you can easily refer to them. Or find a useful metric conversion chart online and add it to your bookmarks. Better yet, look for a metric conversion calculator to do your conversions for you.

A system of measurement is a set of units that is used to measure anything with time, length and volume, which is used for trade and commerce. The imperial units were used in the United Kingdom and its sovereign countries and had been known as the English system of measurement using the foot, pound and second units. This is the basis of the US customary units still being used today in the United States. The metric system on the other hand was first used in France and other non-English speaking countries before it was adopted by the rest of the English-speaking countries. The metric system uses gram, meter and second for its units. There is a move to use the metric system as the standard measuring system. In the interim it can be confusing to convert pounds to kilograms and vice versa. There are quite a few websites that have kilograms to pounds converter for easy conversion. However, during the times when you cannot access the Internet, wouldn’t it be good to know how to convert one kilogram to pounds manually?

Search online and you can find several websites that allow you to immediately convert kilograms to pounds. People on a diet will probably be very familiar with this as several websites teaching people how to control the amount of food they eat have online weight conversion calculators. Examples of sites that have kilograms to pounds converter or calculators are HealthyWeightForum.org, Metric-Conversions.org, or the ConvertUnits.com. These are just some of the online kilogram to pound calculators. There are many more that you can visit and each one is easy to use.

While an online kilogram to pound converter may be the easiest way to convert weight measurements, it is still a good idea to be able to convert the weight manually. This is very helpful when you are looking at items in the supermarket that are labeled in kilograms while you are so used to items weighed using the English or US customary units of measurement or in pounds. You can look for a conversion chart or remember this useful numbers to mentally calculate. One kilogram is exactly equivalent to 2.205 pounds. That is quite easy to remember, right?
